Monster manners

Be a lounge lover, not a lounge monster. 12 house rules for every lounge you get into.

  1. One seat per person. Your bag can sit on the floor.

Coats, backpacks and duty-free bags don't hold boarding passes. When the lounge fills up, the seat next to you is someone's only seat.

  2. Calls go in the phone room, not the quiet zone.

Speakerphone is how monsters are spotted in the wild. Most lounges have phone booths or a corner for calls; use them.

  3. The buffet is not a to-go counter.

Eat as much as you like while you're here. Packing a picnic for the flight is another matter, unless the lounge hands out to-go boxes itself.

  4. Headphones on. Your show, your ears.

Videos, games and voice notes all count. If the people around you can hum along, it's too loud.

  5. Charge, then share the outlet.

Top up and move along. Camping at the only free socket with three devices and a power bank is a classic monster move.

  6. Shoes stay on, feet stay off the furniture.

The lounger is for lounging, not for socks. Sleep pods and nap rooms exist for a reason.

  7. Know your guest rules before the desk does.

Check how many guests your card or status brings, and what it costs, before you walk up with the whole family. Lounge Monster's guest calculator does the math.

  8. Be kind to the desk. They didn't write the rules.

Turned away at capacity, or your card doesn't count today? The agent can't change the policy. Arguing doesn't open seats; asking about a waitlist sometimes does.

  9. Free drinks are not a challenge.

The bar is open, and so is the crew's right to keep you off the plane. Pace yourself.

  10. Leave the shower better than you found it.

Towels in the basket, hair out of the drain, and be quick when there's a wait list.

  11. Clear your table when there's a tray rack.

Not every lounge has staff on every table. A stack of empty plates makes a seat look taken long after you've boarded.

  12. Tell us when a lounge changes.

New hours, a moved door, a card that stopped working: feed the monster a correction with Report wrong info on the lounge's card, and the next traveler gets in.
